Episode 176: Mastering Creativity with Richard Dagenais (Video)

With over 35 years of experience and success in the performing arts industry working as a creator and creative manager, Richard has been involved in creating international live shows, both in permanent and touring venues, corporate and touristic events, FEC’s and theme parks. He is well versed in leading different styles of creative processes and successfully guide teams to overcome complex challenges.
Born and raised in Montreal, Richard’s decade-long dance career with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet gave him the chance to travel the world and work with some of the best choreographers in the industry, honing his artistic skills. After 18 years working with Cirque du Soleil as head of auditions, senior artistic director and senior creative director, and a year in Dubai working on Franco Dragone’s La Perle, he joined the live entertainment leader that is Cirque Eloize as its Vice-President Creation.

Episode 174: Performer Wellness with Jacinta Wu (Audio)

Jacinta followed her passion for biology, the human body and working with people to complete a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) at The University of Melbourne. Her work in major hospitals in Australia prepared her to be an in-house physio and first responder for The House of Dancing Water show in Macau. Jacinta holds numerous certificates and accreditations in sports injury management, pre-hospital trauma life support, acupuncture, fitness, pilates and Yoga.
Jacinta was also the Head of Physiotherapy on the Terhal Show, by the Ministry of Culture in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia created by Dragone and managed by an events company Hwadi.
Jacinta knows what it is like to be a physiotherapist for elite athletes and performing artists and how treating and managing them differs from a standard physio practice.

John Lawrence "Jack" Canfora is an Award-Winning American playwright, actor, musician and teacher. After receiving his dramatic training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he began his career as an actor in regional theater, working mostly in Shakespearean roles such as Mercutio and Macbeth. He’s been hailed by the Associated Press as “White-hot Entertainment” for his off-Broadway plays including Poetic License, Place Setting, and Jericho, a New York Times “Critics Pick.” He was nominated along with Edward Albee, Elaine May, and Teresa Rebeck for The Newark Star Ledger’s Best Play, 2007. Jack is the recipient of two Edgerton Playwriting Awards, for Jericho (2010) and The Source (2018). He won the 2016 Webby Award for Best Writing in a Web Series. Jack is also the Artistic Director of New Normal Rep.

Víctor Manuel Aguilera has a Bachelors degree in Accounting from the Universidad Autónoma de México, a second Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana, and a Masters Degree on International Trade from Université de Paris I) Pantheon -Sorbonne. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Business and Financial Restructuring consultant in Mexico. Victor is also the co-author of the book Matemáticas Financieras (Mathematics of Finance) published by McGraw Hill, and currently used as the main textbook for the matter in universities such as the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdG). Recently he appeared on Rankia´s podcast, the leading finance community in Latin America and Spain.

In this episode we are joined by Charlie Burrows, talking all things performance and casting. Charlie Burrows made a name for himself as a world-class power tumbler for more than a decade, becoming European and National Champion. He then made the transition from athlete to artist, performing with various shows including La Nouba, by Cirque du Soleil. Following his successful career as an artist he became an acrobatic casting advisor for Cirque du Soleil and is now based in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2020 Charlie also founded International Casting Agency to offer a full-service casting agency, for all aspects of live entertainment.

Episode 171 – Circus with Houston Odum

In this episode we are joined by Houston Odum, talking all things circus and entertainment. Houston is a Circus Director and Producer from Jamestown, NC. He became involved in the arts at age 9, when he started juggling. Since then, he’s developed a passion for Circus Creation and founded the Activate Entertainment Project amidst the Pandemic in October of 2020. Since then, Activate has presented 35 performances, ranging from large outdoor events, and pop-ups, to full-length creations, all with the mission of providing meaningful, live performances that are accessible to the public while empowering artists of all backgrounds and disciplines.

Linda Essig, MFA, PhD, and former lighting designer, was appointed Baruch College’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs on July 1, 2021. She previously served as dean of the College of Arts & Letters at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) where she was responsible for nine academic departments, four centers, and the Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery. Prior to Cal State LA, Dr. Essig was director of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Programs for the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University (ASU) and founding director of its School of Theatre and Film. She also served as chair of the Department of Theatre & Drama and director of University Theatre at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Essig has authored four books and numerous articles and book chapters on both arts entrepreneurship and theatrical lighting design. 
Her most recent book, published in 2022, is ‘Creative Infrastructures: Artists, Money, and Entrepreneurial Action’.

Episode 169 – Circus with Estefani Evans & Ammed Tuniziani

In this episode we are joined by Estefani Evans and Ammed Tuniziani, talking all things circus. Estefani Evans is a 33-year-old flying trapeze artist who has been in the industry for more than 20 years. She has been traveling the world to perform since 2007. Originally born in São Paulo Brazil, Estefani is a 5th generation traditional circus performer who began her career at the age of 14. She is currently touring with Cirque Du Soleil’s Alegria, while juggling flying trapeze, a main character role, dance captain, wife, and mom of two.
Ammed Tuniziani is a 32-year-old flying trapeze artist from Venezuela. He is a third generation of a traditional circus family. He started flying trapeze at the age of 8, which has led him to working for 3 different Cirque Du Soleil shows, as well as many others shows across the world. Ammed was a winner of the ‘Golden Clown’ at the International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo in 2020 with his troupe. He also performed a quadruple somersault in the act, one of the most legendary tricks on trapeze. He is currently on tour with Alegria, along with his wife and 2 kids.
