In these next few episodes, we are recording in collaboration with my fellow podcaster and now friend Ethan from Artistic Finance. Today we are talking with Linda Essig.
Linda Essig, MFA, PhD, and former lighting designer, was appointed Baruch College’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs on July 1, 2021. She previously served as dean of the College of Arts & Letters at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) where she was responsible for nine academic departments, four centers, and the Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery. Prior to Cal State LA, Dr. Essig was director of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Programs for the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University (ASU) and founding director of its School of Theatre and Film. She also served as chair of the Department of Theatre & Drama and director of University Theatre at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Essig has authored four books and numerous articles and book chapters on both arts entrepreneurship and theatrical lighting design.
Her most recent book, published in 2022, is ‘Creative Infrastructures: Artists, Money, and Entrepreneurial Action’.

In this episode we are joined by Estefani Evans and Ammed Tuniziani, talking all things circus. Estefani Evans is a 33-year-old flying trapeze artist who has been in the industry for more than 20 years. She has been traveling the world to perform since 2007. Originally born in São Paulo Brazil, Estefani is a 5th generation traditional circus performer who began her career at the age of 14. She is currently touring with Cirque Du Soleil’s Alegria, while juggling flying trapeze, a main character role, dance captain, wife, and mom of two.
Ammed Tuniziani is a 32-year-old flying trapeze artist from Venezuela. He is a third generation of a traditional circus family. He started flying trapeze at the age of 8, which has led him to working for 3 different Cirque Du Soleil shows, as well as many others shows across the world. Ammed was a winner of the ‘Golden Clown’ at the International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo in 2020 with his troupe. He also performed a quadruple somersault in the act, one of the most legendary tricks on trapeze. He is currently on tour with Alegria, along with his wife and 2 kids.

Jeanette is an award-winning designer for theatre, opera, dance, musical, music performances, installation, and immersive experiences. As a designer, she aims to create a visual environment that is organically integrated into the landscape and language of the production.
Her works have been seen across US cities and internationally at Havana (Cuba), Prague (Czech Republic), Lima (Peru), Edinburgh (Scotland), Tokyo (Japan), Graz (Austria), Shanghai (China), Paris (France), and Bloemfontein (South Africa).
Jeanette is the Associate Arts Professor and Head of Lighting Design Training with NYU’s Department of Drama Production & Design Studio (P&D), and is a member of Woodshed Collective and Caborca, a member of USA29, and is a recipient of the NEA/TCG Career Development Program.

Camille Schenkkan is the Deputy Managing Director for Center Theatre Group. Before moving into that position, she led workforce development and emerging artist programming at CTG starting in 2012. Camille is proud to teach in the Master of Arts Administration Program at Goucher College as well as the Department of Theatre and Dance at Cal State LA, and she has served on the Advisory Board for Emerging Arts Leaders/Los Angeles and the Program Committee for the California State Summer School for the Arts.
Jessica Champagne Hansen is a Los Angeles based costume designer and technician with credits in theatre, dance, film, television, commercials, theme parks, and corporate clients. She is a published author, and her work has been featured in numerous theatre journals and books. Jessica is proud to be the head faculty and creator of the costume program at East Los Angeles College in the Theater Arts Department. She is a member of IATSE Local 829 and serves on the Publication Committee for USITT, and Jessica received an MFA in Costume Design from University of California, Irvine and a BFA in Costume Design & Technology from Emerson College.

In this episode we are joined by Dillon Evans, talking all things Stage Management. Dillon is a Stage Manager from Southern California, and he now resides in Las Vegas. Currently, he is a Show Caller at AWAKENING, a $120 million USD spectacle at Wynn Las Vegas.
Before creating AWAKENING in 2022, Dillon lived outside of the USA for 6 years of his career. Most recently, he was a Senior Stage Manager in operations for Expo 2020 Dubai. Working on thousands of shows with performers, artists and musicians from around the globe. Prior to that, he was a Show Caller with The House of Dancing Water in Macau, and a Stage Manager with the Mainland China tour of Cavalia. Dillon’s additional work includes Cirque du Soleil, Five Currents, Thinkwell Group, MTV Television Networks, Walking with Dinosaurs, and The Old Globe Theatre. Dillon received his bachelors in Stage Management from the California Institute of the Arts.
